Life is more mystery than misery

(or at least, that's what I like to think)

Eleven Kinds of Loneliness

This collection of eleven short stories by Richard Yates (1926 – 1992) was first published in 1962, the same year that his first novel, Revolutionary Road, was nominated for the National Book Award. The author creates a vivid mosaic by briefly telling us the lives and stories of eleven characters that live in New York in the 50’s. Almost like a literary work on impressionism, like each one of the stories were a quick brush stroke in a beautiful but yet sad painting, Yates creates the ambiance of an era in which the American dream finally seemed to came true and yet it just begun to ring a little hollow.

Eleven Kinds of Loneliness is the perfect book to discover a classic like Yates, and a perfectly classy and beautiful gift for a lovely reading on warm Christmas Holiday’s evenings at your favorite place.
